In the Studio: Recording an EP

It’s been quite some time since the release of “What Am I Waiting For” – Almost 3 years. Where have I been? What have I been doing? Well, I can’t lie. I have had some doubts and concerns about where I was going as an artist, and what I wanted to ultimately do. I’ve done some montage-style soul searching, and needed to take a break for me to better understand what I want to do. This music business is exciting and challenging, but it’s also exhausting. I had to take a step back and decide if this is something I really want to do.

I’ve learned how to more effectively design websites, and even freelanced for a while. I’ve taken up recording and mixing music in a much more serious fashion. For my last album, I purchased a small recording setup so I could do the pre-production. This was to make sure I got exactly what I wanted when I went into the studio and spent the big bucks. I liked this process a lot. I liked everything about the whole process – the pre-production, the recording, the mixing – and I wanted to get a better grasp on all of it. I upgraded some of my gear, which I’m sure I’ll go into in a later post, and aimed to learn as much as I can about this fantastic art.

Anyways, long story not-so-short, I’m recording this EP as an experiment. It’s exciting in all facets, seeing that I’ll be the one, writing, producing, engineering, recording, mixing, mastering, and designing this EP. It’s going to be quite different than the last album, and will include some new takes on the old tunes as well as some new songs. I’m very excited about it, and I hope you are too!
